Neymar not rushing Europe switch

Santos forward Neymar has rejected claims that he needs to move to Europe in order to realise his full potential.

The 20-year-old Brazilian has said he will only leave his homeland once his contract expires in 2014, despite reported interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Earlier in the month, Brazil legend Ronaldo stated that Neymar could scale greater heights than Barcelona star Lionel Messi, but only if he leaves the country.

Brazil coach Mano Menezes expressed a similar opinion.

Such comments have been criticised by Santos officials and club legend Pele, and Neymar has declared that he can continue to develop in Brazil.

"Experience comes with time," Neymar told Globoesporte. "I have improved in the last three years and I can continue to improve by working hard and trying to win.

"I do not need to go to a new place to grow or get more experience. I am experiencing many things at Santos, with many positive accomplishments. I do not need to move to Europe.

"Mano said that to help me. He wants the best for me. But this decision belongs to me, my father and the rest of my family."

Neymar has scored eight times from his 16 appearances for Brazil.
