Former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli says the club turned down a chance to sign Marek Hamsik during his time at Brescia.
Serie B side Brescia offered Slovakia international Hamsik to Juve, who passed on the opportunity.
Hamsik moved instead to Napoli in 2007, where he has developed into one of the leading talents in Serie A.
"We had dinner with Brescia president Gino Corioni after a league game," Cobolli Gigli told Il Mattino.
"He informed me that they had a real jewel at their disposal in Hamsik, and added that he wanted him to play for us.
"However, fortunately for Napoli and their president Aurelio De Laurentiis, we waited too long."
Hamsik, 24, has been linked with a move away from Napoli to one of Europe's heavyweight clubs.
He arrived in Italy from Slovan Bratislava in 2004.
