Boateng: Still a job to do in Munich

Bayern Munich put one foot into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 win in Marseille on Wednesday.

Mario Gomez gave the German side the lead after a goalkeeping error from Marseille keeper Elinton Andrade.

Arjen Robben doubled his side's lead after the break.

Bayern defender Jerome Boateng is confident that his team can finish the job when they return to Munich for the second leg.

"If somebody has told us before that we would have won 2-0, we would have taken it," Boateng said.

"We can be very satisfied with the performance, excluding perhaps two or three things. The goal before half time was important and now we should be able to reach the next round with a good result in Munich."

Bayern midfielder Thomas Mueller was pleased with the result but admitted the performance came up short.

"Well, we have won 2-0, which is a good result for any away game in the Champions League," Mueller said.

"The performance was decent, we fought a lot. We played a bit better than them, but it wasn't a perfect performance by us, we shouldn't forget that."

France winger Franck Ribery said there was still plenty of action in next week's second leg in Bavaria.

"We did well, it was very important for us to get those two goals, and they will be important for the next game," Ribery said.

"But we can't think of any possible semi-final against Madrid already, we still need to finish the job."
